Our previous blog post listed 10 companies who offer adrenaline or adventurous activities that visitors to the South Lakes might like to try. With the lake district being the adventure capital of the UK there is still plenty of activities for all ages in the Northern Lake District, so here is another 10 for you to consider:

1. Most of Ullswater's (the lake district's second largest lake) shoreline is privately owned, however there are various points around the lake where you are permitted to launch sailboards and small craft. The Glenridding Sailing School and Boat Hire based at The Spit, Glenridding offer a range of courses in sailing, kayaking and canoeing. They also hire out sailboats, canoes and kayaks and are open seven days a week from Easter to the end of October. Telephone 017684 82541 or visit www.glenriddingsailingcentre.co.uk

2. Keswick Cimbing Wall is ideal for a wet day as it brings the outdoors indoors. They also offer ghyll scrambling also known as canyoning which is their most popular activity (see video below). You can contact them on 017687 72000.

3. Rookin House activity centre is just 4 miles from Ullswater and only 8 miles from Penrith. They offer a range of packages and a wide variety of activities including escorted quad bike trek, archery, clay pigeon shooting, indoor go karting rally cross, jcb driving, horse riding, argo cat off roading, human bowling and paintball. For further details please telephone 017684 83561.

4. Whinlatter Englands only true mountain forest, is the home of the longest purpose-built mountain bike trails in the Lake District. The Altura Trail puts altitude into Mountain Biking by offering stunning views and a great single track trail which rises to 500m (1600ft) above Keswick and the northern lake district. If you require bike hire then contact Whinlatter Bikes on 017687 73940. The forest also has 9 different play areas for children, Goape, and is also a great place for walking with unrivalled views across Derwent Water, Bassenthwaite Lake and Keswick.

5. Reach Beyond Adventure offer you the chance to try canoeing, rock climbing, ghyll scrambling or bushcraft survival activities in the Ullswater area. All activities are suitable for children, adults & families and are open for anyone to join. Each activity lasts for approx. 3hrs and prices start from £25 per person. For further details please visit www.reachbeyondadventure.co.uk or telephone 01768 483867 to book your place now.

6. Via Ferrata at Honister Slate Mine. The original Via Ferrata`s (Latin for Iron Way) were routes literally across The Alps that soldiers  used to carry supplies to their Allies in World War One and Two. Introduced at Honister back in 2007 by Mark Weir, the Honister Via Ferratas were the very first in the UK. Using the original Miners track up the dangerously steep outer incline of Fleetwith Pike, the addition of a continuous cable made climbing this magnificent mountain achievable and safe for everyone. To book a ticket please telephone 01768 777714. The video makes for interesting viewing as it was an exclusive first climb for Trail magazine back in April 2007, before the wires were even finished.

7. Fancy learning some Bushcraft skills such as shelter building or campfire cooking? then give Keswick Canoe and Bushcraft a call on 07944 735 010 or visit their website www.keswickcanoeandbushcraft.co.uk Recommended in the Telegraph's "The Rough Guide to the Lake District' In 2012, and in 2013 by 'The Sunday Times'.

Each Tale Trail has a map on one side and a fun story on the other which links to features on the map. Walks range from 1 to 2 hours. Each walk is £4.95 including postage, or you can buy the boxset of 7 walks for £22.95. To buy the walks you will need to visit http://www.taletrails.co.uk/buy
