Whats on in the Lake District throughout the summer holidays

On most days there is something going on in the Lake District, however here is a list of some of the bigger festivals, unique and annual events taking place during the school summer holidays:

Thursday 25th July - Ambleside Sports. Traditional Lakeland Events including Cumberland Wrestling, Hound Trails, Track Races, Rydal Round Fell Race and Cycle Races. Adults £6, under 12s FREE, 12-17 yr olds £3.

Friday 26th  to Sunday 28th July - Kendal Calling. The Lake District's version of Glastonbury. Music Festival at Lowther Deer Park, near Penrith. Tickets may still be available from Penrith Tourist Information 01768 867466.

Saturday 27th & Sunday 28th July - Cumbria Steam Gathering at Flookburgh, nr Grange over Sands. Its its 41st year the gathering brings together a vintage collection of vehicles, and also lawn mower racing and entertainment from bicyle stunt team 3Sixty.  Adults £12, under 16s FREE.

Friday 26th to Sunday 28th July - Pot Fest in the Park at Hutton Forest nr Penrith. Potters from all over Europe and beyond gather to exhibit and sell their goods. Adults £6 children FREE.

Saturday 3rd August - Picnic Cinema will be showing the very dark comedy Sightseers at Keswick Pencil Museum, a location which featured in the film. Certificate 15. Tickets £15.

Saturday 3rd August - Cockermouth Agricultural Show at The Fitz, Low Road, Cockermouth. Judging of animals including sheep, cattle, goats, horses, sheep dogs and foxhounds. Take a ride on the rodeo bull, or visit the sheep sheering demonstration. Adults £7 children £5.

Saturday 10th August. Picnic Cinema will be showing the cult film 28 days later, in the centre of Grizedale Forest. The film is an 18 certificate. Option to camp over, tickets £25.

Saturday 10th & Sunday 11th August - Lowther Show in the grounds of Lowther Castle near Penrith. Something to interest all ages including wildlife displays, birds of prey, knights of middle England, archery, crafts, food festival and antiques fair. Also taking place over the weekend will be World class sporting championships including clay pigeon shooting and gun dogs. Adults £17 children £6.

Saturday 25th August - Grasmere Sports, The Show Field, Stock Lane, Grasmere. Now its its 161st year Grasmere Sports is probably the most popular traditional events in the Lake District. Participants compete in a variety of sports, including Cumberland Wrestling, Fell Running and Hound Trails. Also depending on weather conditions there will be a flypast by RAF Battle of Britain Dakota and also the RAF Seaking helicopter. Adults £8, Children 5-14 £2, under 5s FREE.
